Last Sunday, I was feeling a little sentimental and missing my Grandfather, who died about 10 years ago. It was the combination of it being Father’s Day and a Sunday that had me feeling reminiscent. My Grandpa was the only man who resembled a father figure in my life. Sundays were a day we spent together every weekend. In the morning, he’s read the Sunday paper and drink a cup of coffee from his “I <3 Grandpa” mug I bought for him, while country music played on the radio. He loved country music. When he died, I Freecycled his album collection of over 3,000 LPs to a very grateful music collector. I think I credit my love of music ,undefined by genre to the exposure to the wide range of country and bluegrass music in his collection, while my aunt’s and uncles in the house were listening to everything else .
Shirley Manson is cooler than ever. “…I haven’t seen much effort into trying to redefine the way women have historically been viewed as solely visual treats and playthings. Make no mistake, there is still an incredible struggle for women to be treated as equal around the world and in the music industry. I’ve always felt a responsibility to conduct myself a certain way. “
Whole interview here:
So, last week I mentioned how in love I am with Fiona Apple’s new album. I still do ,even after watching the new video of her wearing an octopus as a hat. Actually,I love the video. The absurd surrealism amuses me.
Also, she was on Jimmy Fallon and sang another new song, “Anything We Want” and Paul McCartney’s “Let it Roll” in honor of his birthday.
“Anything We Want” feels like a poetic and seductive conversation set to music. That’s the only way I can think to describe it. Little By Listen has a great review of ‘The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do’ here , which you should read if you actually want to know what the album sounds like instead of my lame attempts at describing it.
Wow, I wish Poe would come out with something new. I heart her hard.
I had this song playing in my head after seeing this great e-card by Conscious Parenting. “it’s just another one of his Jedi mind tricks…”
Speaking of Poe, MC Lars’ Edgar Allen Poe EP is out and I’m rather excited. MC Lars is one of my long-term Pretend Boyfriends. Seriously, how cool is he?
As he says about this:
In my new lit-hop music video for “Flow Like Poe”, I dress up like the him and use a raven puppet to explain how poetry and rap are similar. This is why I’m so gangster.
Lit-hop. Lordy, the geekgasms I had.
I love Jimmy Fallon and love to make fun of 50 Shades of Grey.
Sir Snugglemuffin gets really pissed off when people dance. Toddlers are funny people. Whenever someone dances in our house, he yells at them and shakes his head no. I don’t know what the dance aversion is because we do not live in that town Footloose is set in. Nope, we don’t. So, this song seems very appropriate to lay these days in La Casa de la Crazy.
